Measuring Guide: Measure the correct width and height
With this measuring guide you can easily determine the correct measurements for your made-to-measure curtains.
Follow the steps below carefully to achieve the best result.
Materials required
- Tape measure
- Pen and paper or phone/note app
- Chair, folding step or ladder for higher measurements
Measure width
- Usually, measure the entire width of the rod/rail. If the rail is continuous, measure only the window width or including the wall section, if desired.
- Additional width: Add 10-15 cm on both sides for an even more luxurious look and to minimize light penetration at the sides.
Example:
- Width of the bar/rail: 150 cm
- Additional width: 15 cm x 2 = 30 cm
- Total width: 180 cm
Measure height
1. Measure from the ceiling
- For normal rails or poles: Always measure from the bottom of the rail or pole to the floor.
- If the rail is recessed into the ceiling (milled): Measure directly from the ceiling to the floor
2. Check the height in several places: Floors are sometimes not perfectly level. Therefore, measure in at least three places (left, middle, right) and use the smallest value.
3. Choose one of the two suggested heights:
- Above the floor (recommended): Let the curtains hang 1-2 cm above the floor. This prevents contact with dust and makes opening and closing easier.
- With drag: Add 10-15 cm to the measured height. Note that this option requires more maintenance.
Example:
- Height from pole or rail to floor: 240 cm
- For above ground: 240 cm - 2 cm = 238 cm
- For a tow: 240 cm + 10 cm = 250 cm
